Entry as a tourist, the visas and residence permits open to Australians, and the documents each one needs.
- AFP police checks and apostilles for ArgentinaFor an Argentine residence application, obtain the appropriate AFP National Police Certificate, have the Australian document apostilled by DFAT, then arrange a Spanish sworn translation and Colegio legalisation. Your residence category determines which records DNM needs.
- Argentina digital nomad visa for Australian citizensAustralians eligible for tourist visa-free entry can seek Argentina’s digital nomad transitory residence for up to 180 days of remote work for foreign-domiciled clients or employers, renewable for another similar period. Apply before entry through TIE 24H or in Argentina directly with Migraciones; the fees and filing steps differ.
- Argentina residency for Australians: routes and rulesAustralians can apply for Argentine temporary residence through qualifying income, employment, study, family ties or investment; permanent residence by arraigo normally requires three years of temporary residence. The RaDEX residence charge for an Australian is 100 UMSM (ARS 100,000 under the September 2026 fee schedule).
- Argentina student visa for Australians: study residenceAustralian students on a recognised full course can seek renewable one-year temporary residence through Migraciones with an electronic enrolment certificate from a registered institution. A short language course is not automatically eligible.
- Argentina visa requirements for Australians in 2026Australian ordinary-passport holders can visit Argentina visa-free for up to 90 days, with an extension of up to a similar period available through Migraciones before permission expires. The old reciprocity fee remains suspended; bring proof of departure within the initial stay.

Australia permits dual nationality, but Argentine passport exit rules can apply once you become Argentine.
- Moving to Argentina with an Argentine spouse or partnerAustralians married to an Argentine citizen can apply for temporary family-reunification residence for up to three years. Permanent residence and citizenship require separate applications.
- Retire in Argentina from Australia: pension and visaAustralians can retire in Argentina on qualifying pensionado temporary residence if their documented regular foreign pension reaches five times Argentina’s monthly SMVM. An existing Australian Age Pension may continue abroad, but its rate can change after 26 weeks and a first claim generally cannot be made from Argentina.
